George Murdoch - Private
13th Battalion Royal Scots 26975
Died: 11th May 1916, Western Front
George was born at Auchafour Cottage, Toward, near Dunoon, on 11 June 1888. His parents were Alexander, a ploughman and Elizabeth Stout. They were married in Rothesay in 1878.
On the 1891 census, George lived in Inverkip with his 7 siblings. His father's occupation is listed as 'general house porter'. The address is difficult to decipher but it looks like 'Sir Michael - last property', adjacent to a grocer's shop.
In 1901, the family were living at Kirkbraefoot Cottage, Main Street, Inverkip.
On the 1911 census, George lived in Kilmartin, Argyll as a boarder of John Davidson and a domestic gardener.
George served in the 13th Battalion Royal Scots and is commemorated at Loos as well as on the family gravestone in Inverkip Cemetery, along with his brother Robert who served in the Black Watch.
