George McIntosh - Private
10th/11th Highland Light Infantry 26400
Died: 27 August 1917, Western Front
George Ross McIntosh was born on 26 June 1891 at Brae Street, Dunkeld. He was one of five children of Duncan, a coachman, and Isabella m/s Rose of the The Taybank Hotel, who were married in 1887.
On the 1901 Dunkeld census, the family were living at the Coach House, although the address is difficult to decipher.
In 1911, George was living in East Lodge, Lennoxlove House, Haddington (pictured) as a boarder with George and Mary Ann Nichol and working as a domestic gardener. His parents and four siblings were living at Tay Terrace, Dunkeld.
He enlisted for service with the Highland Light Infantry in Greenock and his connection with Inverkip is unclear, although it is likely he was an employee of the Ardgowan Estate as the communicant role for the church lists his address as Bridgend Cottages which were estate worker cottages. His name is scored through and 'killed in action' entered in the right hand column.
He is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial and on the Dunkeld and Inverkip War Memorials. Duncan McIntosh died in December 1947 aged 87 at Glasgow Road, Perth.
